Notes from the Executive Director – December 2016

I am writing this on Thanksgiving Eve – a very appropriate time to pause and say how grateful and thankful I am to be part of the Bower Center for the Arts and to THANK ALL OF YOU!

As we enter into the Holiday season and the last month of this year:

  • Bower Center for the Arts has a new logos [and branding campaign] as featured on the mast head of this newsletter and our website (especial thanks to BCA Board member, Mikael Blido, who designed the logos)
  • We successfully raised over $1100 from the Great Pink Rummage Sale/Auction and will have additional funds as high-ticket items are sold on Craig’s List. About ¼ of rummage sale items were not sold and will be going to Agape
  • BCA board member and Building & Grounds Chair, Bill Blewitt, aided by BCA friend Bruce Johannessen, have successfully prepped and secured all window surrounds/ledges and all new windows will be installed by the first week in December (process delayed by window manufacturer by 3 weeks)
  • Bruce Johannessen made a wonderful, wooden Christmas Tree to display ornaments made by artists – an idea brought to us from Staunton and BCA Board Chair, Sergei Troubetzkoy
  • The ornaments, artists and studios will part of the upcoming Holiday Open House Tour in December (details on page # — )
  • Our 3rd Floor is now fully occupied by artists Erni Houser, Janie Mantooth, Peggy Markham, Perri Mason, Marjory Milligan, Suzanne Paddock and Lorie Stetson. The Bedford Genealogical Society just signed a lease as our 8th & final tenant on the top floor!!!
  • Great, longtime friend of BCA, Randy Patterson, is replacing our old kitchen stove and dishwasher (to compliment the new kitchen faucet he installed last month)
  • Another great friend of BCA, Rob Jarvis, will be manning the BCA welcome desk from noon to 3PM on Sunday afternoons preceding Christmas (December 4, 11, 18). If this proves to be a popular time to be open, we will actively recruit volunteers to similarly act as Sunday afternoon greeters (please call BCA to volunteer: 540-586-4235 or email:
  • The annual gift concert (free to all) will feature the return of “Brass 5” on Friday, December 9th

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season and a happy, healthy and blessed new year!
