The Bower Center for the Arts, Bedford, Virginia, will hold its 5th Annual National Juried Exhibition. It will be open July 25 – August 26, Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Works are presented in numerous media including photography, mosaics, painting, fabric, and glass. The exhibit includes the works of 55 artists from 14 states and 94 works of art.
There will be an awards reception on 2nd Friday, August 11 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The award presentations and comments by Ms. Salam will be at 6:00 p.m.
About the Judge: Halide Salam received a Masters of Art in Painting and Drawing from New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Ph.D in Fine Arts, Studio from Texas Tech University and presently teaches at Radford University, Radford, Virginia. She studied Sacred Geometry and Sacred Art Traditions under the famed Geometer, Keith Critchlow, Director of Kairos and The Royal College of Art, England UK.
Her book, Between Two Spaces: Reflections on the Spiritual in Art, was published by Pocahontas Press in January of 2008, and was nominated for the 2008 National Book Award in Non-Fiction. The book traces the intellectual and spiritual development of a visual artist living between two cultures.
She has been painting and exhibiting her works in national and international galleries and museums, has received numerous awards in painting and has presented lectures and papers on art and art history as well as conducted workshops in painting and drawing during her teaching career, within and outside the United States.
