Join the Bedford Franklin Regional Rail Initiative as we celebrate the start of Passenger Rail Service from Roanoke, VA with a Bedford Passenger Rail Stop Rally on Thursday, November 9 at 6:30 AM. The rally will show our support for an Amtrak station in Bedford to serve the Bedford, Smith Mountain Lake, and Franklin County region.
The rally will be held at the station location behind the Bedford County Courthouse and downhill from Goose Creek Studio. Ample parking is available. The event will start at 6:30 AM so that we can be in position at 6:55 when the eastbound train from Roanoke to Lynchburg passes through town. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. If the train is on-time, the event will formally conclude shortly after 7 AM.
Handmade signs are encouraged (no sticks, please). Suggested signs include:
Don’t Forget Bedford and SML
We Travel, Too
Have Suitcase, Will Travel
We know it’s an early morning event, but an Amtrak station serving this region would be a significant step forward both for transportation accessibility and for economic development. We encourage the widest possible participation.
