Art in Motion is a national juried exhibition at Bower Center for the Arts that celebrates the energy, excitement, and expression of movement in art. Art from across the country is on display which explores the theme of motion through 2-D and 3-D works in any medium, including paintings, sculpture, photography, kinetic art, mobiles, mixed media, and more. Whether motion is physically present through moving elements or implied through composition and design, Art in Motion showcases creative works that capture the dynamic power of movement. The exhibit will be on view from August 13 through September 26, 2026 and juried/judged by Elsabé J. Dixon.
Meet the Juror/Judge - Elsabé J. Dixon
Elsabé J. Dixon is past Executive Director of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, has served as agency grant writer and President for the Washington Sculptors Group, Washington DC; taught art at Averett University; George Mason University; has a background in Fine Arts, and has done independent curatorial work for Riverviews Art Space in Lynchburg VA; Penn State University, PA; George Mason University, VA; and McLean Project for the Arts in McLean VA.
She sits on the Advisory Board of the McLean Project for the Arts, the Washington Sculptors Group, and the Hillyer Gallery in Washington DC (jurying 18 solo exhibitions for the Hillyer per year). Dixon holds degrees from Averett University (BA) and a Masters from George Mason University in New Medium Studies. She also studied Art History at the Corcoran in DC, as well as the Manhattan College in NYC and took American Art History courses through VCU. She is dedicated to public service and advancing the role of art, history, and education through community engagement and is currently teaching at Chatham Hall where the Robin Peake Stuart Collection can be viewed.
