Programs and Community Relations Manager
Full-Time (40 hours/week) | Flexible Schedule
Bower Center for the Arts | Bedford, VA

Bower Center for the Arts is seeking a creative, organized, and community-focused Programs and Community Relations Manager to lead arts programming and outreach efforts. This position plays a key role in developing inclusive, engaging arts experiences for all ages through classes, camps, performances, events, and community partnerships.

The Programs and Community Relations Manager works closely with the Executive Director, staff, board committees, instructors, performers, volunteers, and community partners to ensure programs align with Bower Center’s mission and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage arts programming, including concerts, performances, classes, summer camps, and outreach initiatives
  • Create and maintain annual and quarterly program calendars
  • Recruit, train, and supervise instructors, performers, volunteers, and interns
  • Coordinate program logistics, schedules, contracts, and budgets
  • Serve as liaison with instructors, performers, participants, families, and community partners
  • Support outreach programs such as family art days and adaptive arts programming
  • Collaborate with staff on marketing, promotions, and grant-related program materials
  • Assist with event staffing, front desk coverage, and general administrative support as needed

Qualifications

  • Some post-secondary education preferred (arts, education, nonprofit management, or related field) or equivalent experience
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in program coordination, event planning, education, or nonprofit work
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
  • Experience with graphic design and basic computer systems preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team and engage in diverse communities
  • Passion for arts education and community engagement

Position Details

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Flexible hours based on programming needs
  • Reports to the Executive Director
  • Starting salary: $32,000 per year
